As the cost of living goes up, we all start to worry about how we will afford necessities, much less luxuries. When you live on a fixed income, the struggle is even greater. For the millions of Americans whose income is based on Social Security benefits, the rising cost of living may cause worry that they won’t be able to survive on what comes in each month.

In 2020, the world as we knew it came to a sudden standstill as a global pandemic rocked us all. Quarantine and social distancing rules became our new normal as we all learned to handle the virus that came to be known as COVID-19. 

Recently the Biden administration proposed a set of new regulations focused on the renewal and application processes for Medicaid, as well as other government programs. The main purpose of the new regulations is to make it easier for older adults, disabled people, and low-income children to enroll in these important programs. 

July 26, 2022 - The U.S. Department of Transportation under the Biden administration is pleased to announce a brand new “Bill of Rights” designed to help people with disabilities enjoy an easy and comfortable experience when traveling by air.  

July is Disability Pride Month, a time to celebrate the accomplishments, contributions, and inclusion of people with disabilities. Here are two dates to remember this month: 

In the United States, different holidays in June raise awareness for eye health and blindness. For instance, there is Cataracts Awareness Month in June, International Nystagmus Day on June 20, and Deafblind Awareness Week on the week of June 26. 

As May is National Military Appreciation Month, it is a special month for those in and out of the military. We show support and pay tribute to those in the military, and we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country. 

Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Day takes place in February each year.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Day was created in 2013 by the Rheumatoid Patient Foundation (RPF) to raise awareness for people who function daily with pain and misconceptions about rheumatoid arthritis.

With Glaucoma Awareness Month upon us, we need to talk about this sight-stealing disease.  

According to the National Eye Institute (NEI), more than 3 million Americans have glaucoma, and over 60 million people worldwide have glaucoma. And by 2030, the NEI predicts that this number will increase to 4.2 million, a 58 percent jump.
